Cartagena de Indias

Cartagena de Indias, known as La Heroica (The Heroic City), is in the heart of Colombia’s Caribbean coast. This iconic destination is internationally recognized as an open-air museum, where the richness of its colonial architecture, 17th-century walls, bastions, and plazas coexists with the vibrancy of its business, port, academic, and industrial development.

Its historic center, the traditional “Corralito de Piedra”, preserves colonial remnants such as sentry boxes, cannons, and fortresses, which blend with the natural beauty of its beaches and the warmth of its people, creating a unique experience where past, present, and future converge.

Cartagena de Indias is Colombia’s leading tourist destination and a regular host of high-impact international events, thanks to its excellent air, land, and sea connectivity, as well as its robust infrastructure for tourism, business, and academia.

Just as Cartagena de Indias has transformed its history into a driver of development, WEEF (IFEES & GEDC) 2026 will bring together academic, industrial, and governmental leaders to reflect on how engineering education fosters creativity, innovation, sustainability, and inclusion—building a better world through diversity and global collaboration.
